 | Porch powers his way to second British open title |
British Open
Steve Porch won his second British open by dominating the biggest field of the 2010 Grand Slam season. His 70 nett (72 gross) was made up of a combination of long straight drives and a great short game, including two long bomb putts for birdies. He had 4 birdies in his round, but finished poorly with two bogeys in his last three holes which cost him a sub par round.
Second was a three way tie between Ken Coughlin, John O’Callaghan and Paul McIndoe. Coughlin won on a countback in his first event with a handicap. O’Callaghan can consider himself unlucky as he was on fire with a one over par front nine, which he couldn’t keep going on the back.
The Red Jacket
The race for the red jacket heats up with only one round remaining with three players via for golf’s most valued prize. McIndoe has hit the front on Even par, and is looking good for his record third Red Jacket. Matt Smith is still in the hunt and is 3 behind, with Jason Williams a further 2 shots back. Both of them will be very keen to win their first Red Jacket, and maybe this year will be their time, with both of them having opportunities they didn’t convert in the last few years.
The Golden Putter
It looks like the key to McIndoe’s success in the Red Jacket so far is his short game, as he is also leading the Golden putter with an average of 30.3 putts per round. The Big Easy, Matt Rennie, is not far behind with an average of 31.0 which went up after a round with the golden putter. The next closet player is Andry Smith with 33.7 putts per round.
